Amy Grant Hruska

I have had a wonderful life with a very rewarding career as a musician and a teacher. I have been blessed with many wonderful, caring friends and long lasting relationships with former students. I am happy that I’ve been able to be a wife and mother and “Mimi” to my grandchildren. I have loved being a part of the Catholic Church as a musician and volunteer.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have a husband, Steve and two grown children, Emily and Sally. Steve also has two grown children and together we have seven grandchildren.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am first a musician and still use my skills accompanying classes at the Richmond Ballet. I am a retired music teacher of 36 years. I love being with people who appreciate and love music!

Joe’s Inn, Dynamo and Pegasus.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
42 years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
There are so many. I am in awe of the talent and drive of our theatre community and those involved have been interesting to me; but also, just residents in my neighborhood who have lived elsewhere and had many different experiences.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I traveled in my younger day and I’m happy to go between Richmond and Virginia Beach. I love to stop in Williamsburg, or Yorktown, or visit friends at the “Rivah”.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Elf and Christmas Vacation make me laugh! TV shows would have to be Food Network now.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Work hard and be kind.

Nothing really.

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?

Former local business I miss is “Didgies” and “Country Charm”. Grove/Libbie area.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I’ve always admired Condoleeza Rice and would enjoy talking music, people and her experiences as Secretary of State. I’d probably take her to Pegasus (where my daughter works) and it’s quiet.

VMFA, Va. Museum of History and Culture, Botanical Gardens, Maymont, Richmond Ballet and Va. Rep.
